The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change published the draft Notification on Fly Ash Utilisation on 22 April 2021. While the draft introduces several new provisions meant to improve the fly ash management framework, further scrutiny reveals overarching loopholes. Among other concerns, the social and environmental impacts of fly ash pollution are not adequately taken into consideration, and the draft in its present form stands to exacerbate ongoing fly ash issues in the country.
