The Uttar Pradesh Water Management and Regulatory Commission Act was passed by the UP State assembly on August 28, 2008 under the World Bank funded Uttar Pradesh Water Sector Restructuring Project “to provide the establishment of the Uttar Pradesh Water Management and Regulatory Commission to regulate water resources within the State, facilitate and ensure judicious, equitable and sustainable management, allocation and optimal utilization of water resources for environmentally, economically sustainable development of the State , fix the rates for water use for agriculture, industrial, drinking, power and other purposes and cess on lands benefited by flood protection and drainage works from the owners of lands benefited through appropriate regulatory instruments according to State Water Policy and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto”.
इस कानून के संबंध में जागरुकता हेतु मंथन एवं प्रयास द्वारा 3 दिसंबर 2008 को लखनऊ में एक कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया गया था। The objective of the workshop was to bring some of the groups working on water in Uttar Pradesh toghether and initiate a discussion on the transformations that are being brought about in the state’s water sector through the Water Sector Reforms Project funded by the World Bank.
